RED ROSE: original painting
This painting was inspired by a rose growing in my front yard. Its red color was so vivid that it was almost too bright to look at. I just had to try and capture it’s beauty before it wilted. A flower only lasts a short time, but, a painting can last for centuries.
Isaiah 40:8 the grass withers and the flower fades, but the word of our God shall stand forever.
I think of flowers as God’s little love notes that He scatters around for us to discover. They are like little kisses from our Father.
Red is a very strong color that commands immediate attention. It evokes strong emotions from one extreme to another, such as anger, hate, love, jealousy. In Hebrew the word for red is Adam, meaning red or ruddy, coming from the earth.
Colors symbolize many things and emotions. Red can symbolize romance, passion, love, hate, sin, the blood of Jesus, and the list goes on. I think about the symbolism of the Bride of Christ in the Song of Solomon where the groom and bride search passionately for each other.
The flowers appear on the earth; The time of singing has come, And the voice of the turtledove Is heard in our land. Song of Solomon 2:12
Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth— For your love is better than wine. Song of Solomon 1:2
And as the bridegroom rejoices over the bride, So shall your God rejoice over you. Isiah 62:5
