The Shofar was painted during worship service as part of my expression of worship. The meaning behind the shofar is very deep and has a long Biblical history. I used a ram’s horn for this shofar, although some shofars are made with the horns of goats or the kudu antelope. The shofar is mentioned many times in the original scriptures, but translated as trumpet in other versions. The shofar was heard on Mt. Sinai in Moses’ time. The blast of the shofars was used by God to bring down the walls of Jericho. When Abraham was tested to sacrifice his son Isaac, God substituted a sheep caught in the branches by his horns. The shofar’s loud blast called people to: wake up, repent, worship, battle, announce the coming king, or his coronation, and remind us of the resurrection of the dead.

The shofar is sounded several times throughout the Jewish high holy days, especially during the month of Elul through Yom Kippur. It is interesting that Rosh HaShanah, also called Feast of Trumpets, or Yom Teruah (Day of the Awakening Shout or Blast) is the only holy day celebrated for two days because of the unpredictable sighting of the new moon in ancient times. Yom Teruah is the beginning of the New Year. The shofar is sounded 100 times in many synagogues, and the last one is called the last or great trump. Some think the rapture will occur during Yom Teruah which means  the Day of the Awakening Shout or Blast.

Daniel 12:1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which stands for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time:and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. 2 And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. 3 And they that be wise shall shine as the brightness of the firmament; and they that turn many to righteousness as the stars for ever and ever.

1 Corinthians 15:52 ESV In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised imperishable, and we shall be changed.

1 Thessalonians 4: 16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:

Matthew 24:30 “Then will appear the sign of the Son of Man in heaven. And then all the peoples of the earth will mourn when they see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory. 31 And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

Matthew 24:36 But of that day and hour knows no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. 37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.
